06/20/2008: "Fletcher and Binihi"
After the Pentecost land diving we made our way north to Maewo (literally 'devil island) where we spent ten lovely days at the village of Asinvari. We made friends with the locals and had an educational and fun time with Nixon, Chief Nelsons son. We hiked the mountains, explored a mooncave, birthing cave, ancient carvings and swam/washed/refreshed in the lovely local waterfall. We even managed to send the kids to school for the day. Fletchers first day at an official school attendance was at Asinvari primary school in a thratched hut, dirt floor, no electricity and rickety old timber tacked onto poles for a desk. Of course he loved every second of it. Baden did the most work we have seen him do in ages and also enjoyed the soccer match! Back on Chaotic Harmony Catherine and Gavin had a schoolwork free day and got into some serious tidying up...
Anyone visiting Vanuatua in a yacht should visit Asinvari. Lots to do, idyllic tropical setting, wonderful anchorage and friendly welcoming people.
