07/04/2007: "Budding anatomists"
Gutting and filleting the Giant Trevellay bought the kids and cats on deck. At one stage I was concerned that either Fletcher or Tusca (the cat) was going to dissapear in the the cavity I was making. Although a bloody process it educates the children where food really comes from and in Fiji nothing goes to waste. The head, eyes, etc are all used in the food chain. The LeSueur children have always had a fascination with the contents of the stomach in fish - and usually with good reason as we have learnt much about the diet of the pelagic species. Along the way they have understood about livers, hearts, stomachs, etc. Learning on the waves.
